Haarlem Tea Company

Haarlem Tea Company: Tea for change

Haarlem Tea Company is a family business specialized in tea. They strive for a fair production chain in the tea industry. They do this by investing in improving the living conditions of tea farmers, plantation employees and their communities. But also by creating awareness among trading partners, customers and consumers. Since 2023 they have founded their own foundation, the Haarlem Tea Foundation.

The mission

This year we started a new project together in Deniyaya, Sri Lanka, in the middle of the tea plantations. There we will work on strengthening the communities, the farming families in the tea plantations in Sri Lanka in the areas of education, health care, income and infrastructure. These families represent almost 5% of Sri Lanka's population, and they form one of the most disadvantaged communities in the country. Children hardly go to school and the facilities are poor. Many workers have never had education and do not know what they and their families are entitled to in terms of government subsidies and (medical) support.

And we, together with the Haarlem Tea Foundation, are going to do something about that!

Maximum impact

In Sri Lanka, the local heroes of our local project partner Sevalanka worked with the tea farmers to see what it takes to make the greatest possible impact in the community. The first step: improving facilities in the villages, such as schools and sanitary facilities.

How do we create the maximum positive impact? Want to know more about this? Then come to ours Investors Meet Up on March 21st. Kim Paardekoper (Founder of Haarlem Tea Company) stands on our stage and talks about the impact journey they have made as a company.
