The Dutch volleyball association (Nevobo) and Net4kids have started a collaboration this year to strengthen girls in Nepal through volleyball. Through the 'Volleyball4Life' program we focus on teaching important skills to girls in Nepal through volleyball, so that they are able to make good choices themselves.
The great force behind 'Volleyball4life' is Kopila Upreti; the most successful volleyball player from Nepal. With her impressive life story, in which volleyball has made a difference, she inspires girls in remote areas at the foot of the Himalayas. She provides volleyball training in schools and links these to skills such as making your own choices, daring to speak up and finding your own talents and passion.
In the Child Watabaran Center, volleyball is immensely popular thanks to the arrival of Kopila Uprety. In addition to judo and football, volleyball is a way of teaching the former street boys and girls in the center certain core values such as cooperation and respect.
COOPERATION WITH NEVOBO
Net4kids helps Kopila, in collaboration with Nevobo, to develop the 'Volleyball4life program and supports Kopila in its implementation. For example, a nice match has been found with one of our projects in Nepal, the Child Watabaran Center (CWCN). This project offers former street girls from Kathmandu a place to live and learn. The girls are often neglected, unable to take care of themselves and have no future prospects.
The Volleyball4life program ties in nicely with the CWCN and Kopila now regularly visits the girls in the center and gives them volleyball training. Kopila's personal story in combination with volleyball training inspires the girls in the center and helps them to develop life skills. And we want to realize that for many more girls!
In the Child Watabaran Center, volleyball is immensely popular thanks to the arrival of Kopila Uprety. In addition to judo and football, volleyball is a way of teaching the former street boys and girls in the center certain core values such as cooperation and respect. It improves health and reduces the risk of disease. And specifically for the girls in the Girls Home, a sport like volleyball can contribute to their improvement as a woman in general. By offering sports activities to these girls, you give them the opportunity to develop and increase their self-confidence. Girls and women who excel in sports can act as role models for other girls and women. This can ultimately lead to a change in women's self-image.
In the Netherlands, Net4kids and Nevobo, together with the International Sports Alliance (ISA), founder of CWCN Tirtha Rasaili and volleyball player Kopila, have now had 2 sessions to develop a training curriculum. This training curriculum is now being completed and we will start implementing it in Nepal in 2020. We will be distributing this program through schools, with partner CWCN. A nice start to helping many girls in Nepal and who knows, maybe the next Nepalese top volleyball player will emerge!
