Ghana: Discovery education to learn to think independently
Knowledge makes your world bigger, teaches you to think independently, to widen your view and to act entrepreneurially. The Takoradi Educational Resource Center offers young people in Ghana this opportunity, increasing the chance of building an independent life.
Young people discover their talent and learn to use it for their future thanks to innovative education concept
Inquisitive and focused, Ghanaian youngsters develop their talents and are working on their future in a safe and stimulating environment through the wide range of books, computers and educational programs such as the 'I Want To Be program' or the 'Digital Marketeer program'. .
In addition to computer education, an introduction to (local) business is an important activity of the center. Company visits and contacts with alumni who have a job offer young people a future perspective!
Why this project partner
The Educational Research Center was established in 2002 by Nellie Kirschner-Timmer. Born and raised in Ghana, daughter of a Ghanaian mother and a Dutch father. 'My profession is an HR consultant; getting the best out of people is second nature to me. When my mother moved from our parental home in Takoradi, the idea arose to make an education and IT center for young people from the communities there. Let them discover what they are good at in an interactive way. Nellie calls it 'discovery education'. The Ghanaian government is inspired by its concept and several educational institutions are involved in the center.
To Be Worldwide is a strong partner for Net4kids because of Nellie's innovative strength, her creativity and her ability to connect business in the Netherlands with the challenges of young people in Ghana. The center is embedded locally through good connections with schools and local authorities, which guarantees continuity. Also in terms of content. The programs are further developed by well-trained staff members, based on Nellie's ideas.

Improved Corporate Finance found their perfect match in Ghana and invested in the Digital Marketeer project of To BeWorldwide. A group of young professionals, alumni from the center, are offered the opportunity to be trained as a digital marketer. In this they are coached and assisted by Improved.
