KIRUANI TOWN ADVISORY & FUNDING BOARD
Rex Vermeulen and Paul Joosten, together with 30 entrepreneurs from their network, started a project in the Tanzanian village of Kiruani to make the community self-reliant through education, entrepreneurship and cooperation.
Looking for 30 passionate entrepreneurs
Rex and Paul have found thirty entrepreneurs in 2021 to participate in this adventure. By becoming a member of the 'Town Advisory & Funding Board', each participant commits to a three-year collaboration and contributes funding and knowledge. They help the local experts with resources, knowledge, skills and experience to make Kiruani in Tanzania a self-supporting community.
Life at the foot of Kilimanjaro
At the foot of the highest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro, communities live that show how working together with local business, schools and governments can lead to sustainable change of thinking. And that was desperately needed, because life in this Lower Moshi region is not easy. Tanzania is a developing country. More than 48 million people live there, three quarters of whom have no access to electricity. Many people still suffer from malaria, tuberculosis and HIV / AIDS and many women and children die in childbirth due to poor hygiene and lack of medical assistance during childbirth. The vast majority of people work in agriculture, not because they chose farming, but because they had no other choice. Only 7% of the Tanzanians have a bank account and even fewer have a loan with a real bank.
Collaboration with Net4kids and FT Kilimanjaro
In the communities where Net4kids works in collaboration with the local partner organization, everyone, men and women, young and old, now has access to health care and education. In an environment with opportunities to provide for one's own livelihood in a self-sufficient and sustainable way. Thanks to FT Kilimanjaro, the lifestyle of the residents of now 5 local communities (Mtakuja, Mikocheni, Chemchem, Londoto and Mawala) has changed drastically in the last ten years and they can also provide themselves with food during the 'dry period'.
